Bible lessons, music and fun activities are geared to help the children grow in their faith and also emphasize the importance of sharing that faith in the world by our actions and service to others.
The safety and security of our children is very important to us. All of our volunteers and staff have up to date criminal record and child abuse clearances and attend a required yearly training and review of our church safety policies.
Nursery, 8:30 – 12 Noon
(Room 104 located on the Sanctuary level)
For infants – age 2. Qualified staff will care for your children while you are in worship or adult study. All children must be signed in and out by a parent. Parents will be given a pager in the event they are needed while their child is in the Nursery.
Sunday School, 10:00 AM
(All classes are located in the children’s area on the ground floor.)
Ages 2 & 3, Room 1
Children learn basic Bible stories through song, story, and cooperative play in a bright and cheerful environment where they feel safe and secure.
Ages 4 thru Kindergarten, Room 2
Teachers engage children with song and motions, interactive storytelling and weekly crafts. The children will be focused on the life of Jesus as we enter and follow through the Lenten season.
The primary age children from 2 through 5 are separated into two age groups and they use the David C. Cook curriculum.
Each week the children hear a Bible Truth, and learn about a Life Connection to the passage or Bible Story. They always leave with take home leaflets and a craft or “hands on” project that helps them verbalize what they learned that day. Our young Christians love the chance to have a little “free play time” before they dig into the lessons and they enjoy the consistency of familiar faces each week there to teach them and learn with them.
Grades 1-5, Room 4
We use a “large group/small group” format with this age group. Each week begins with music, videos and large group activities that incorporate the Bible lesson. The children then get into age appropriate small groups to study the lesson further.
The WHIRL curriculum by Sparkhouse helps bring our Sunday School children in Grades 1-5 into the life of the church with a lectionary-centered curriculum. It is fun for kids and the leaders to use. Every Whirl lesson follows a four-part sequence: Welcome, Hear, Respond, and Launch (WHRL!).
Each week, kids and leaders start their time together by identifying where they are in the church year, introducing the theme of the day, singing, and watching an animated video to set up the lesson. Next, they dive into the story or lesson from the Bible in varied ways. The children are given opportunities to respond to the scripture lesson through Q & A time, Activities and Games.
Room 4 and 5 ; During 8:45 Traditional Worship
(Option for children ages Kindergarten through Grade 3)
At UMCWC we want our children to feel welcome in our services. If your children want to remain in the service for worship we have “Pew Pouches” and Children’s Bulletins available every Sunday. Part of our worship service is specifically directed toward the children. We call it the “Message For Growing Christians”; at this time the children come to the front of the church and a short children’s sermon/message is delivered for them while the adults look on. After the Message for Growing Christians, children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade have the option of attending “Kids’ Church” in Room 5. During Kids’ Church, they learn about the Bible through a fun interactive program titled “What’s In the Bible?”. Children ages 2-5 have the option of spending time in our free-play room that we call Splash.
During the 11:00 Contemporary Service, children are invited to join Miss Judy at the back of the Fiesta Center for quiet play and activities immediately following the Message for Growing Christians.
